DTF Printing on T-Shirts, Hoodies and Clothing – Durable and Precise Printing

DTF printing (Direct to Film) is a modern garment decoration technology that makes it possible to produce colourful, detailed and durable prints on many types of textiles.

At Aldrux24, we produce DTF prints on T-shirts, hoodies, corporate clothing, promotional garments, sportswear and other suitable textile products. The technology works well for individual orders as well as small and medium production runs.

DTF is particularly useful when the artwork contains many colours, fine details, tonal transitions or when several different designs are required without preparing separate screens for each project.

What Is DTF Printing?

DTF stands for Direct to Film. The artwork is first printed onto special transfer film and then transferred onto the garment using heat and pressure.

The technology uses colour inks together with a white underbase, which makes it possible to print on both light and dark garments.

Why Choose DTF Printing?

One of the main advantages of DTF is its flexibility. The same technology can be used for a simple logo or a more complex, full-colour graphic.

01

Full Colour

DTF can reproduce multicolour artwork, tonal transitions and designs containing fine graphic elements.

It works well for colourful logos, illustrations and more complex artwork.

02

Small Production Runs

The technology does not require separate screens, so it works well for small quantities and short production runs.

It is also a good option when you need several different designs.

03

Different Materials

DTF can be applied to many suitable textiles, including cotton, polyester and selected fabric blends.

The technology and application parameters are selected according to the specific garment.

04

Fine Detail

The technology can reproduce small elements that may be more difficult to achieve with some other decoration methods.

It works particularly well with designs containing many colours, details and tonal transitions.

How Does the DTF Printing Process Work?

In DTF printing, the artwork passes through several stages before it is transferred onto the garment.

  1. Artwork preparation – the design is checked and prepared for printing.
  2. Printing onto film – the artwork is printed onto special transfer film together with a white underbase.
  3. Applying adhesive powder – a special hot-melt adhesive powder is applied to the print.
  4. Curing the transfer – the adhesive powder is properly heated.
  5. Heat pressing onto the garment – the finished transfer is applied to the product using a heat press.

Correct application parameters are very important: temperature, pressing time and pressure. They should be adjusted to both the transfer and the material being decorated.

What Garments Can Be Printed with DTF?

One of the advantages of DTF is that it can be used on many different types of clothing. However, not every material behaves in exactly the same way during application.

T-Shirts and Hoodies

DTF works particularly well on cotton T-shirts, hoodies and garments made from selected fabric blends.

The technology can be used on both light and dark garments.

Sportswear, Promotional Clothing and Workwear

DTF can also be used on selected polyester garments, sportswear, promotional clothing and workwear.

In these cases, application parameters should be selected carefully for the specific material.

What Artwork Works Best for DTF?

DTF offers a great deal of creative flexibility. It works particularly well with artwork containing:

  • many colours,
  • fine details,
  • tonal transitions,
  • illustrations and complex graphics,
  • colourful company logos,
  • designs for dark garments,
  • short runs with several different designs.

DTF can also be a good option when the artwork contains more colours than would be economically practical with traditional screen printing.

What File Should I Send for DTF Printing?

For the best result, send your artwork in the highest quality available.

Vector Files

For logos and simple graphics, the preferred formats include:

AI EPS SVG CDR PDF

Raster Files

We can also work with properly prepared raster files:

PNG PSD

Raster artwork should have sufficient resolution for the intended print size.

If the design requires a transparent background, the file should contain correctly prepared transparency.

Not sure whether your file is suitable? Send us the best version you have – we can review it before production.

How Durable Is a DTF Print?

A properly produced DTF print can withstand regular use and repeated washing very well.

Durability depends on several factors, including:

  • the quality of the transfer,
  • the garment material,
  • heat-press parameters,
  • the size and construction of the artwork,
  • how the garment is used,
  • proper care.

Durability should therefore be considered in relation to the specific garment and how it will be used.

How Should DTF-Printed Clothing Be Washed?

To help preserve the appearance of the print, the garment should be cared for according to the manufacturer's instructions.

It is also advisable to:

  • wash the garment inside out,
  • avoid aggressive chemicals,
  • avoid bleach,
  • do not iron directly over the print,
  • avoid unnecessary overheating of the printed area.

Exact care recommendations may vary depending on the garment and transfer used.

DTF or Screen Printing – Which Should You Choose?

Both technologies can produce very good results, but they are better suited to different types of orders.

Consider DTF When:

  • you need a relatively small quantity,
  • the design contains many colours,
  • the artwork is highly detailed,
  • you need several different designs,
  • production flexibility is important.

Consider Screen Printing When:

  • you need a larger production run,
  • the same design will be repeated many times,
  • the artwork contains a controlled number of colours,
  • cost efficiency for a large run is important.

DTF or DTG – What Is the Difference?

DTF and DTG are two different digital printing technologies.

DTF – Direct to Film

The artwork is printed onto special film and then transferred onto the garment using a heat press.

The technology is relatively versatile in terms of the types of textiles that can be decorated.

DTG – Direct to Garment

In DTG printing, ink is applied directly onto the surface of the garment.

It can be an excellent option for suitable garments, particularly cotton T-shirts.

Is DTF Always the Best Printing Method?

No. DTF is very versatile, but not every project should be produced using the same technology.

For larger runs of a simple design with only a few colours, screen printing may be more economical. For selected cotton T-shirts, DTG printing may also be worth considering.

The size and construction of the artwork also matter. A very large, solid DTF print may feel more noticeable on the surface of the garment than some other decoration methods.

For this reason, the printing technology should be selected for the specific project rather than assuming that one method is always best.

What Is DTF Printing Used For?

DTF can be used for corporate, promotional and individual projects.

  • corporate clothing with logos,
  • promotional T-shirts,
  • custom printed hoodies,
  • event clothing,
  • club and sportswear,
  • merchandise,
  • short clothing collections.

DTF for Merchandise and Your Own Brand

DTF can be particularly useful for producing small merchandise collections and testing new artwork.

Because no screens need to be prepared, several different designs can be produced without starting a large production run.

This makes DTF an interesting option for creators, bands, clubs, small clothing brands and event organisers.

What Determines the Price of DTF Printing?

The final cost depends mainly on:

  • the size of the print,
  • the number of garments,
  • the number of print locations,
  • the garment type,
  • the condition and preparation of the artwork,
  • the number of different designs.

If you already have your artwork, send it to us together with the planned quantity and print placement. We can then prepare an individual quotation.

How to Order DTF Printing

Send us your logo, graphic or finished artwork together with information about the number of garments you would like to have printed.

If you have not yet selected a T-shirt or hoodie, we can also help you choose a suitable garment.

We will review the project and assess whether DTF is the right technology for your order, or whether screen printing, DTG or another decoration method could provide a better result or more attractive production cost.
